LETTER TO THE EDITOR, SOUTH WHIDBEY RECORD

THE VETERANS RESOURCE CENTER VETERANS DAY TRIBUTE

DEAR EDITOR,

VETERANS DAY IS SOON APPROACHING and the Veterans Resource Center has a very special TWO PART TRIBUTE to veterans and their families scheduled for November 10th , the day before the official Veterans Day.

PART ONE OF OUR VETERANS DAY TRIBUTE:

The VRC has been working closely with the South Whidbey High School students and teachers since school began this fall. Please join us for our collaborative program which the students have called: HEALING VETERANS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES.

Help us welcome our guest speaker, Michael Reagan for a special school assembly program to which the public is invited. This morning program is at the High School auditorium, 10:15-11:30 AM on TUESDAY, Nov. 10th. Michael and one of our co-directors, whom many of you know, Steve Durbin, served in the same unit in Vietnam. Michael is an Edmond’s artist who has committed himself to doing portraits of the over 5000 military men and women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan from portraits provided by the families of the deceased. He has completed over 1800 to date delivering them as gifts to their families.

PART TWO OF OUR VETERANS DAY TRIBUTE:

The VRC will host the first of our ongoing public gatherings which is at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 4-5:30 pm, the afternoon of November 10th. We will discuss: WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP HEAL THE WOUNDS OF WAR? And share music and refreshments.

Some of you may remember the VRC’s first public event, our Memorial Day Tribute for Veterans, their families and communities: HONORING THE HEART OF THE MATTER; a unique presentation of readings from diverse voices speaking of war and the human experience. We were honored to share our readings with 75 people from the community. The Veterans Day Tribute offers a taste of the diversity of the community based programming for Veterans, their families and communities which the VRC is committed to support and guide towards healing the effects of war upon us each. Visit our website for details and directions. www.vetsresourcecenter.org or call 321 7226 for call back.
